{Editorial Styling} for Sweet Magazine by Penny Lane Studio

It’s always fun to await the arrival of a print magazine which includes your very own styled shoot. Issue 4 of Sweet Magazine is all about the boys! Armed with an amazing industrial backdrop of the soon to open ‘Carrington Brewery‘ and the chance to get all moody with the lighting, I styled a night for the bigger boys night in complete with Bloody Mary’s, a delicious range of beers, snacks a plenty, and a sneaky antler here and there. Magazine Editor, Lisa photographed the feature, to see the full issue, click here.

In the meantime, these are a few of my favourites.

{PENNY LANE STYLING} The Great Gatsby Photobooth

Gatsby Booth 1

Well, indeed I know some Wedding Industry Fabuloso’s will not be up this early in the morning after Inlighten Photography threw their big party at the Ivy in Sydney last night. It as a night of the Who’s who on Sydney’s wedding scene to get together, network and kick up their heels with a fun series of photo booths decorated for some Instagram play….don’t you just love it!!?

Last week my gorgeous friend Gerard from Fabmosphere asked me to join him in creating a booth. We love a little glam, so decided the The Great Gatsby was the best way to add a little sparkle to the show!

Gerards gorgeous lounges were backed by a silver slit drape and we even managed to get the very same feathers that were used on the set of Baz Luhrmann’s film! The drinks trolley played its part in carrying the costumes and the most gorgeous Silver Mirror graffiti’ed in red lippy lead the way with the message to Drink Champagne and Strike a Pose! I must confess I nearly fell off my chair when two handsome lads arrived with the HUGE chandelier that Gerard sourced which could have almost stole the show!

{Press} Penny Lane Glitter and Sparkle Cake Bunting in Hitched Magazine

Well this is indeed a surprise!! I have been a long time fan of the work of cool kids Ashdown and Bee in Sydney. So when I found out that our Glitter and Sparkle Cake Bunting had made a royal appearance atop gorgeous doughnuts in their latest Pop up Party feature in Hitched Magazine, I was thrilled! Particularly given the photography was by my dear creative gal pal Grace from Willow and Co.

Meet the Stylist: Amanda from Red Wagon Events

The first time I saw Amanda’s work I was blown away with colour, movement, texture and fabulousness of a beyond beautiful Bollywood Theme. The detail and approach to such a colourful theme made me want to find out more about this amazing talent behind such a beautiful event.

Fast forward to not so long ago I received a message from Amanda…would I collaborate with her on a theme? WOULD I? As a creative specialising in event decor I am blessed with working with fabulous stylists who take my work and make it look AMAZING beyond the dreams I have when it leaves my studio. And so I felt privileged to be working with Amanda, who surely did exceed beyond these dreams once again.  (More about that fabulous and fun event shortly on my red elephant creative page, I promise)…

And so, today I am so very excited to share with you some other photos of Amanda’s styling as well as an insight into what it is that inspires her beautiful work, and how she manages to style it so fabulously and with versatility every single time!

Describe your style in five words?

Clean, balanced, versatile and detail driven

What has been your favourite theme/event to date?

Oh that is such a hard question to answer because I seem to have a new favourite each time I style a party. If I was really hard pressed to say one though it would most likely be my son’s modern geometric penguin party. Everything came together perfectly on the day and I love that I was able to take such a commercial theme (of happy feet) and make it totally unique and inspiring to others.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I think I find myself inspired by the simplest of details. A colour, a prop, a setting, anything. Take a step outside your front door and you really can be inspired by all that is around you.

Name one of your all time favourite event décor elements.

I would be totally lost without my milk glass cake stand collection. The smooth clean modern shape offers the perfect basis every time to display stunning desserts. My dream is to own the whole collection one day (I’m slowly getting there!!)

What is your number one piece of advice for planning an event?

Mocking up. Know your set up inside and out. Not only can you edit from your initial vision but it really does lessen setting up time when you know exactly where each stand, dessert label will be going.
